We are a Healthy School!

Picture
The Healthy Schools Project is being co-ordinated in co-operation with the Health Service Executive.

  • So far within our school we have encouraged parents and children to take healthy lunches to school. This was initially promoted through the Food Dudes Programme where the children were given opportunities to taste a range of fruit and vegetables. The programme spurred an interest among the children to take fruit and vegetables to school as part of their lunch. The principles of the programme have been incorporated into our School's Healthy Eating Policy.

  • The children have participated in Physical activities run within the school. Our newest ideas has been to set up a play monitor system where the senior pupils have been given the responsibility of ensuring no child is alone in the yard with nothing to do. The play monitors teach other children how to play different playground games such as hop scotch, skipping and stuck in the mud!

  • Last Year as part of the Operation Transformation Initiative, all classes in the school took part in the Daily Mile. All classes and staff were encouraged to walk, jog or run laps of the Geraldine's Football Field two days each week. It was a very successful project and promoted an interest in running as a sport among the children and improved the health and fitness levels of everyone throughout the school.
