Fursey's eco tribe help save our bees and butterflies
St Fursey's Eco Tribe were known as 'The Pollinators'.
The aims of the Eco Tribe were to create an awareness of the importance of bees and butterflies in our Eco system and to encourage everyone to plant flowers in their gardens to feed them. The project was supported by the Environmental section of the Louth County Council and the children worked closely with Blackrock Tidy Towns Committee. Damien O' Callaghan, who works with the local community helping them grow their own food, was also on hand to advise the children on what plants would attract the bees and butterflies.
The project celebrates the EU Year of Citizens, the Pollinators garden will link up with a cottage garden that has already been planted in the park. Now that the garden has been planted the children will work with Blackrock Tidy Towns to help to maintain it .
Outdoor Classroom
Our outdoor classroom is lovingly maintained by our SNAs Maria Kirk and Mona Hanratty. The children are brought to the garden to plant carrots, potatoes and onions. There is also some fruit trees too which harvest delicious apples and plums. During the Summer Months we are often treated to some delicious strawberries too! Throughout the school there are wild flowers planted to maintain the vision of the Eco Tribe and ensure that the bees and butterflies can thrive in our school Eco System.
