Wellbeing Week 2023

This week we will be celebrating Wellbeing Week in our school. This is being organised by the children in 6th class. There will be a schedule of activities happening throughout the week to promote your child’s health and wellbeing.

  1. Mindful Monday – the children engaged with mindful colouring and inspirational quote activities in class.
  2. Tranquil Tuesday – the children brought slippers, a fleece or a comfort blanket to school so that they could feel cozy during the day.
  3. Walk it Wednesday – the children were brought out for a walk around the school grounds. Some of the children in 6th class completed a 5k walk!! (weather permitting)
  4. Triumphant Thursday – the children brought certificates, medals, trophies to school to share their triumphs with their class.
  5. Feel Good Friday/ PositiviTEE day – the children were given some Golden time at school. They wore clothes with inspirational quotes on them or colourful clothes that cheer them up. Donations were collected for Pieta House, a worthy charity who support Mental Health and Wellbeing initiatives throughout the country.

We hope that everyone in the school enjoyed the various activities that 6th class arranged.

Thanks to EVERYONE who donated to PIETA HOUSE today. We raised €415 for this very worthy cause.

Amber Flag Award

Our school values the uniqueness of each and every child. We understand that in the current busy, modern and fast paced world that we live in that children’s mental health and wellbeing must be nurtured. Over the past few years the school undertook some initiatives to ensure that the wellbeing needs of the children were being met.

Some of these initiatives included:
Growth Mindset Lessons – these were provided to the children by Sharon Fenelly.
Yoga – After School Yoga sessions were available for all children to participate in.
Mindfulness Meditation – Every Tuesday and Thursday all classes took part in meditation for 10 minutes.
Family Friendly Wednesday – Homework on Wednesdays is to engage in a simple family activity at home in order to promote healthy and happy families.

As the Schools have been closed due to Covid-19, Ms. Mc Guinness and Ms. Higgins worked together to organise a Virtual Programme of activities to promote Mental Health and Wellbeing. These planned activities took place during the week leading up to the Mid-Term Break. All the children in the school were informed that there would be activities spread out over the three days to promote:

1) Mindful Monday
2) Thankful Tuesday
3) Wellbeing Wednesday

To fundraise for Pieta House, the children were encouraged to send in videos of themselves doing the Jerusalema Dance. This has been put together by Ms. Higgins and turned out FABULOUS. You can enjoy watching it below.
